![]() This is the single jacket you can count on to keep you warm on those active adventures in the mountains, but it also doubles as an outer layer around town or on fair weather days. While the Uberlayer is incredibly breathable, it will also shed a light rain and buff moderate winds but you don’t want to rely on it to repel heavy storms. It’s a trim fit, so it can be worn under a shell on colder days or as an outer layer on days without excessive snow, wind or rain. It’s ideal for belaying a climber, or as a mid layer while ski touring. The Uberlayer is designed to keep you warm while you’re stationary, and release excess heat when you’re active. This is in an active insulation piece (as is the Super Layer), hence the use of the incredibly warm Polartec Alpha Insulation, and breathable 100% nylon 30D stretch woven shell. With improved styling, a hood, and Polartec Alpha Insulation rather than the Primaloft Hi-Loft Silver Insulation found in the Super Layer Jacket, the new Uberlayer Hooded Jacket is a welcome improvement. This season, the good folks at Outdoor Research (OR) have upped the ante considerably and released the Uberlayer Hooded Jacket. All in all though, that's a minor inconvenience for me and I still love grabbing this puffy anytime.Outdoor Research’s Super Layer goes Uber! Two years ago we reviewed the Outdoor Research Super Layer Jacket, to moderate fanfare. Perhaps keep the interior pockets above the exterior ones, or just reduce the size of the pocket and/or provide stiffer mesh to reduce the bouncing. I'd rather have offset exterior/interior pockets. Granted, I could have fewer things on my person, but I don't have all that much stuff and it bothers me. Also, the inner mesh pockets seem great at first, but if I have something in the front pocket (like a phone) and then another item in an inner pocket (like a wallet), it gets really bulky and the mesh has a bit too much stretch so things bounce around a lot and is annoying while walking. I've already torn some sizable holes in it while hiking through in el Potrero Chico (admittedly a thorny place, but I was bummed that it tore so much). One downside I've noticed are that it could do with being more rugged to thorny environments. This is now my go to puffy for pretty much all occasions. And the hood is oversized and awesome for a helmet but the wire brim it has needs a redesign, it's too small and just a tad in my peripheral vision sometimes.Īs a Texan, i was blown away that I could get by in 20F weather with a tee shirt and this micro puffy. The pack in its own pocket feature doesn't work, the fits too tight. Had I the budget for only one of the two I would choose the uberlayer.Ģ small complaints, not significant but worth noting. For extended sub zero temperature I still defer to my "michelin man" parka but this is a far more useful piece. I belive that when properly layered this jacket can match the parka most days. I went for high loft down and large baffles for maximum heat. I have been a belay parka man my whole life. Forget the rains shell and get caught in down pour? Well at least you are still warm even if you are a little wet. need it water proof? throw a rain shell on top. So versitile, need it warmer? put a flece under. The main selling point is breathability like I have never seen but with decent wind and rain resistance. ![]() Good long body and arms, some room to throw a midlayer under but not too much This is probably the most diverse and well used jacket I own. I never expect a mid layer to be fully waterproof so I still think it deserves a 5 star rating. On a good note, it dried after the storm super quick and kept me warm. It got pretty wet and luckily I had a rain shell to put over it. I got stuck in a hail/ rain storm this summer on a mountain and I would not exactly call it waterproof in extreme conditions like that. I even used it in Hawaii on a hike in the big island when light rain came in. I wear this around town all the time and have it in my bag on any bike or hike. Come spring skiing i completely removed the shell and went just with this. I use this as a mid layer during ski season. I'm 6'3 and have a large and it fits very well. I guess that's a true indication as to how popular it is. I checked every day for like a month until it showed up. It took me forever to actually get one because they never had the color or size I wanted. There are plenty of ways they could expand on the combat experience and I hope that they decide to make it happen one way or another. With there being a big emphasis on combat for this game, I hope to see more variety in the type of attacks you can do with the sword. Bosses don’t really have this sort of sign, but they will have their own visual and sound queues on when to avoid them. That red glow means they are going to attack and you can’t stop it from happening. To tell when it is best to dodge or attack, notice your enemy and look to see if they have a red glow. I ended up dying a few times and replaying the beginning enough to notice that there seemed to be roughly four different layout styles that could appear when playing. Not only are there now enemies all of the player and the gang is already hostile towards you, but the level itself has a bit of a different layout. Once you get back into the first level, you have a good chance that it won’t be how you remember it during your initial run through. After you pick this option, you can head out to the action. You will always have your sword as your main weapon, so this selection is for your secondary weapon. Then, before you leave for the mission, you pass through the armory which gives you a chance to change up your weapon choice. It isn't too far in that you end up at your first fight sequence which will end up getting cut off by a prompt stating “10 minutes later.” and a quick cutscene to show your character being killed surprisingly out of nowhere. On this run, the level will be clear of enemies and take the time to provide a hands-on tutorial to show you how to navigate the level itself. Right after, you'll get a quick briefing by a colleague before heading into the game itself. Starting out the game, you will land right at the start of the first level and be handed your main weapon, a sword, from a character that seems to be your armory contact. It wasn't exactly what I had expected when I went into this game for the first time, but it was definitely a fun experience to fight through. Only during the beginning of the capsuleer era would the Achura acquire interstellar recognition as many sought out pod pilot training. Some were displaced for mining operations, but for the most part, Achura who had not been assimilated remained reclusive and introverted. The rural areas were mostly ignored, dotted with thousands of Achura monasteries. This mostly affected major population centers, which were modernized to become full cities according to the Caldari standard. Their pre-industrial Achura Empire had been discovered by SuVee during the secret colonization many decades prior, and was uprooted and replaced by minority Caldari rule. Influenced by Sukuuvestaa Corporation, the Achura decided to join the Caldari in their secession as a client state. Other ethnicities, including ethnic Gallente who had long been residents of the Caldari homeworld, were brought into the fold where all now identified as one race. The largest Caldari ethnicities, the Deteis and Civire, were affected by these deep-rooted changes and molded to the norm. The Caldari psyche and society was shaped into something completely new, as the all-encompassing corporate state came into being. When the Chief Executive Panel usurped control of the homeworld from the indigenous nations, all who supported the secession were swept up in the social upheaval, their identities being uprooted and replaced by a new one where discipline and loyalty became the defining traits. This practice continued way past the founding of the Federation in 23121AD, and it was only until the secession of the Caldari in 23154AD did matters change. The Caldari’s concept of a nation differed from the Gallente’s definition, the latter of which tended to be built around purpose or ideology, rather than race or culture.Įven when the megacorporations secretly colonized regions of space on behalf of their master nations, the Caldari would continue to identify by their original ethnicity. ![]() ![]() The boundaries between these ethnicities were profound, not only in physical appearance, but culturally. By this point, each Caldari race were organized into their own fully-fledged nation on Caldari Prime, with minimal to no cross-ethnic mingling. The term Caldari only came about after first contact with the Gallente in 22517AD, as a planetary identifier used to distinguish the races of their homeworld from those of their newfound partners (that term also being used for the exact same purpose). Tikiona was united between 17453AD and 20988AD under the Raata Empire, with whatever ethnicities existing at the time organized into political entities called houses. Like their Gallente neighbors, they were composed of different races on different continents across Caldari Prime, although the bulk of the population were located on the Tikiona continent. Historyīefore the founding of the State, the Caldari were not a singular entity. However, the Caldari do not keep track of non-employees (including the disenfranchised), leaving inhabited areas of State space that aren't under the control of a megacorporation. The Caldari are frequently cited as being the most efficient at keeping the best track of their citizens, as a requirement of citizenship is to be an employee of one of the megacorporations. Where corporate control is weak and/or threatened by non-Caldari influences (such as colonial outposts in remote areas or space stations on major spacelanes), citizens are frequently rotated between locations, resulting in very few permanent residents in these places. Rural populations are nearly non-existent, leaving large tracts of State space unclaimed by any megacorporation or uninhabited for the purposes of automated agriculture and hazardous environment mining operations. The State has the highest urban density of the four empires, leaving much of its population concentrated around urban and industrial centers on planets in and around the core systems, where corporate control is absolute. It is a relatively homogenous nation, with lesser social and cultural diversity than elsewhere, and a single language enforced for the sake of popular unity.
